Even though our seasons on Maui aren’t marked by weather like many other locations, traditions do mark our celebrations. So as autumn approaches, our thoughts naturally turn to…pie! We love pie, and so do visitors! Actually, any time of year! Although there are many places to find dessert treats, we have rounded up two of the very best places to find buttery, crusty, delicious pie.

Leoda’s
There is a strange occurrence on an otherwise desolate stretch of highway between Kihei and Lahaina that can cause a mid-afternoon traffic jam. It’s not the nearby stretch of beaches or stunning ocean view. On the mauka (mountain) side of the highway in Olowalu, a lone plantation style restaurant has a crowd of cars and people lined up out the door for Leoda’s creamy, sweet pies.
What Leoda’s calls “glorified grandma comfort food.” the menu goes beyond traditional favorites like Apple Crumb, Banana Cream, Berry and Pumpkin. Island inspired flavors worth swimming to shore for include like Macnut Chocolate Praline, Coconut Cream or Oluwalu Lime. The Pineapple-Lemon or Strawberry Cream tarts are perfect size for an after-beach treat.
Leoda’s has other tempting menu items. You can also fill up on delicious sandwiches, decedent fried chicken on a waffle, or a farm-to-table salad, all made fresh daily using only Maui’s freshest ingredients.
The owners of Leoda’s also own Old Lahaina Luau, Star Noodle and Aloha Mixed Plate. All were closed for months after the Lahaina fires. Even though Leoda’s was not touched by fire, half of the company’s employees lost their home in fire. The community was thrilled to see the establishment reopen last December, especially since this particular house of pies has a long history of community service and donations.
The best places to stay to fill up on Leoda’s pies are either our resort in West Maui, Kuleana Resort, or any of our resorts in Maalaea: Island Sands Resort, Ma’alaea Kai Resort, Ma’alaea Banyans Resort, Hono Kai Resort, Kanai A Nalu Resort, Lauloa Resort, Makani A Kai Resort, or Milowai Resort
