The Best Ways to Celebrate New Year’s Eve on Maui

  1. Get out on the Water

Since there are four islands making up Maui County, cruising coastal waters dotted by distant islands can be a breathtaking activity at any time of year. Celebrations kick up a notch on New Year’s Eve night! Ring in the New Year with a scenic evening sail around the island, complete with music, free-flowing drinks, and delicious food. Events on large, stable boats like the Pride of Maui’s New Year’s Eve Night Cruise, or Pacific Whale Foundation’s New Year’s Eve Cocktail Cruise are great choices. 1. Party at a Luau

Why not celebrate where a party is already underway? Luaus are a great source of entertainment, plus there is an abundance of food and drink.  See our luau information page and book asap! Spots fill up fast for the most popular performances.

  1. Take in Fireworks over the Ocean

As the grand finale to a wonderful evening, plan to view fireworks in Wailea! The Grand Wailea Hotel hosts Maui’s biggest New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration, but you can catch the show for free at other beach parks or hotels in the Wailea area. Rockets launch at midnight, with explosions of color over the Pacific!

Holiday celebration tips

Be careful if you plan to imbibe- sobriety checkpoints will be in place!  Play it safe and choose a designated sober driver or take a taxi or Uber to your celebration. Public parking is scarce around event areas like Wailea, and expect traffic to be busy everywhere. Plan to arrive early, and take your time on the road.
