Unless you plan never to leave your resort area, you need to rent a car on Maui. Island features are spread out and too big to explore without a car.
Taxis and Uber are available on Maui, but they can be expensive and hard to schedule. The bus system connects the main towns and is affordable, but does not run at night.
Car rentals vary in price, where, and when you book. Turo, where private individuals rent their newer model vehicles, is available, though airport pick-ups can be tricky.
