Before making Hawai'i its home, the anthurium plant thrived in the rainforests of Central and South America. This vibrant plant is native to humid and hot regions where it grew for thousands of years undisturbed. In the late 19th century, its journey to Hawai'i began with a specimen sent to Europe in 1876.

Maui, renowned for its idyllic beaches and romantic retreats, offers an abundance of opportunities for hikers eager to explore its natural wonders. The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) has launched “Mākaukau Maui,” an awareness campaign where visitors that love visiting Maui, or those that want to experience the island for the first time, are reassured and can assist in revitalizing Maui’s economy in the aftermath of last year’s devastating wildfires.

From wild jungles to manicured resorts, the tropical climate of Maui grows the most lush, natural backdrops. However, most tropical plants you might associate with Hawaii, like bird of paradise, plumerias, torch ginger- even pineapples and coconuts, are not native to Hawaii.

Maui offers some of the best adventure experiences in the world, making it a must-visit destination for sports and outdoor enthusiasts. Diverse landscapes and plenty of sunshine makes outdoor activities available year-round. Whether you are looking for a thrilling hike, an abundance of exciting ocean activities or traditional sports like golf or tennis, Maui has something for everyone.

Any time of year is awesome on the island, but Spring 2024 has some unique qualities. Spring is considered Maui's low season,  April through mid-June. April and May are the quietest months, with the island being less crowded. With more space at the beach, a little less traffic and blooming flowers and trees, there typically seems to be a bit of light-heartedness in the air!

Even though we live here, we are amazed by Maui's beauty every day. Seeing the sun rise reflected on sculpted volcanic slopes. Watching boats head out on calm seas to nearby islands, snorkeling and dive sites.

Maalaea, Maui is small oceanfront village with a slow, easygoing feel. Yet, this gem is often overlooked as a tourist destination. Centrally located between Maui's sunny south and west shores, Maalaea condos are on the ocean within walking distance to the island's longest beach. Shops and restaurants anchor one end of Ma'alaea small boat harbor.

We look forward to "whale season" every year, the winter months when humpback whales migrate thousands of miles from summer feeding grounds in polar regions to winter breeding grounds in warmer waters closer to the equator, including Maui.

Aloha, e komo mai- Maui welcomes you back to the island! This is a surprisingly good time to visit Maui, despite last month's devastating fires that burned Lahaina town in west Maui, and parts of upcountry.

This evacuation information has been provided by the Maui Hotel Association to evacuate residents and guests from West Maui. We will update this page as more information becomes available. Our moist story begins in the two mountain regions—Pu'u Kukui, in the West Maui mountains gets an average of 366 inches of rainfall a year, while "Big Bog" in East Maui gets drenched with over 404 inched of rain per year.

Most nights on Maui there’s a stunning show going on above us in the night sky. From a sliver of moon and a sky filled with stars in a dark sky, to the powerful draw of a full moon rising, awe inspiring nocturnal beauty awaits us.

It’s hard to imagine when the Hawaiian islands erupted from the sea, that one day they would support lush and diverse biological species. It's even more suprising to learn some iconic tropical flowers you see today are not native to the islands. At first, there was only rock in Hawaii's evolution. The true native species arrived by wind, bird, or was washed ashore by the ocean.
