Day Trip to Lanai
The island of Lanai is just 16 miles off the coast of Maui, but has a much different island feel. Day-visitors can take a short walk from the harbor to Manele Bay, a golden sand beach and bay frequented by dolphins. Others love nature-based activities on an uncrowded island, or take time to explore quaint shops in the tiny isle’s only town.

Exploring Maui Ocean Center Aquarium
We love sharing some of the best island experiences, like a visit to Maui Ocean Center. When family and friends arrive, we get to go along and play unofficial tour guide. The day we visited was pleasantly warm. Since the park is spread out over three acres, there is plenty of space to see marine life outdoors, like at turtle lagoon, and even gently feel the texture of a spiny sea urchin or soft sea sponge at the touch pool.

Getting Around Maui
On Maui, you can lounge on a sunny beach in the morning and explore a jungle rain forest before lunch. Â We might seem like a tiny island, but Maui is diverse and spread out. Recently, new friends visiting for the first time thought they could hop off their transpacific flight and go on a sightseeing tour to the top of Haleakala before going to their hotel on the other side of the island.

Humpback Whales Early Arrival to Maui
Every winter, thousands of humpback whales travel to the warm, shallow waters of Hawai‘i to mate, give birth, and raise their young. Seeing a whale in September is rare, but not a fluke (pun intended), it does happen, with activity continuing through April, and sometimes into May.
