Help Planning Your Spring 2024 Trip to Maui

Any time of year is awesome on the island, but Spring 2024 has some unique qualities. Spring is considered Maui’s low season,  April through mid-June. April and May are the quietest months, with the island being less crowded. With more space at the beach, a little less traffic and blooming flowers and trees, there typically seems to be a bit of light-heartedness in the air!

Why travel in the Spring?
Some say that March is an ideal time to visit Maui for those who prefer warmer temperatures but don’t want the extreme heat of the summer months. With travel demand down, spring and fall are also the cheapest months to visit Maui.

How far in advance to book Spring travel?
Now! It helps to book three months in advance to the best choice of condos, and cheaper flights. However, you can still find great deal anytime during this slower season.

What’s blooming on Maui during Spring?
Even though Maui enjoys great weather year round, we do have an epic spring full of color. One of the most spectacular sights is purple Jacaranda trees that bloom in April and May. Most easily spotted along the highway upcountry, the flowering trees create a canopy of purple along the road on a scenic jaunt to Ulupalakua. Plumeria trees are also filling in just in time for Lei Day which is May 1st (May Day). With blossoms that range from white and yellow to pink and red, each one gives off a lovely fragrance. Of course there are also an array of exotic tropical flowers. During spring it is common to see buckets of flowers for sale along the roadside for a reasonable price. Take them back to your condo for some scent-filled decoration.

Spring events

The Easter Bunny- Easter is on March 31st this year, so look for activities leading up that special day, with hunts and other spring activities.
National Park Week- This event starts with free admission to National parks (including those on Maui) on April 20th. However, timed reservations such as Haleakala sunrise still require a reservation and fee.
Maui Sunflower Festival- This blooming central Maui event is a party on the farm with live music, dancing, food and community info booths. Check local news for the date.

We’ve recently updated our comprehensive Explore Maui section of destinationmauivacations.com, including the Things to Do pages, where you will find everything from ocean sports and hiking to shopping and luaus. Also check out our new 7-day Maui itinerary for 2024, filled with fun options.

Where to stay

Though there are great activities on the north and east shores of Maui, such as hiking or the road to Hana, most visitors prefer to stay on the sunny south and west shores, or the central coast at Maalaea in between. See this map for reference. Morning beach time is the best at these locations, leaving you the rest of the day to explore the island. Here is our list of 17 properties with over 100 fully equipped condos at each one.
